White Mountains

Nature and Adventure Get Together in the White Mountains

Vacation Homes White MountainsThe White Mountains are a majestic mountain range in the state of New Hampshire, USA. The mountains are a segment of the Appalachian Mountains. The White Mountains feature several parks and the national forest of the same name.

One of the most visited attractions is the famous rock formation - Old Man of the Mountain. The rock has taken shape resembling an old man's face. Unfortunately, the massive rock fell in 2003 but it still persists to be the symbol of New Hampshire. Near the Old Man, there is another natural phenomenon The Basin. It resembles a natural pool that is filled by a waterfall from the Pemigewasset River. It is a popular place for adventurers who like to dive into cold mountain waters. Nearby you can visit the "Old Man of the Mountain" Museum.

Exploring the mountains will be pure pleasure and excitement. Start with the Cannon Aerial Tramway, which will take you to a 4,200-metre summit from where you can enjoy the outstanding view towards Maine and Vermont. For more than an hour you will be able to walk around some observation decks, cafes and take some of the hikes in the area.

Another interesting path to take is the Conway Scenic Railroad, which is the famous road from Crawford Notch excursion. Jump on the Valley train and explore the options of First Class or Coach, each of which is a genuine trip back in time.

More adventures are waiting for you in the White Mountains. One of the most exciting is Lost River Gorge and the Boulder Caves - an absolutely magical experience accompanied with lanterns and thrilling wooden walks. Don't miss seeing the Judgment Hall of Pluto where a 20-foot waterfall will take your breath away. Imagine an incredible collection of gemstones, crystals and fossils with some modern pleasures like shops and coffee, too.

The White Mountains will fascinate you with the rich variety of museums. Some of the most interesting are Canterbury Shaker Village with the traditional Shaker houses and original crafts, the Flying Yankee museum dedicated to the development of trains during the Great depression; another museum following the same subject is the Gorham Historical Society Museum. Not to be missed is the John Wingate Weeks Historic site because of the strikingly beautiful view from the place.

To name only a couple of the must-see places in the White Mountain Range - the astonishing Mount Washington, and the White Mountain National Forest with its majestic trees and the wonderful Covered Bridges.

Jump into the variety of activities in the White Mountains; there is something for everyone - horseback riding, fishing, boating, hiking, canoeing, picnicking, golfing or simply contemplating nature's beauty.
