Vail - Your Days Here will Never be Empty as Your To-Do List Grows and Grows Grand mountain ranges, lush greenery, desert sands, flowing cool-water creeks and monstrous caves - your visit to Vail, Arizona will be full of excitement. This gorgeous and appealing city in Arizona will lift your spirits and satisfy your need to explore. Travel through the many ghost towns nearby, snooping the lost towns or the two still-populated Indian reservations, learning things you never knew about the turbulent history of the Native Indians. Vail was actually named after a pioneer rancher, Edward Vail who granted railroad passage across his land helping the town rapidly develop. You can still visit his brother's ranch, which is now part of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. The attraction that has really put Vail on the map is the Mountain Park of Colossal Cave . The park has many historical sites to visit, so you can dive deep into Vail's history. The park's history is quite impressive by itself, as the first inhabitants of its lands were the Hohokam Indians around 900AD. The Indians farmed the valley beneath the Colossal Cave, and they used the cave as a shrine, storage, shelter. You can still see some of the pictographs on the walls of the park's famous cave. The park is home to over 12 species of mammals and full of various reptiles as well as birds species. The park's wildlife thrives on the protected land and some species are crucial to the area's survival as the natural environment is it's own unique habitat. The same goes for the thousands of documented varieties of wild flowers that grow throughout its extraordinarily complex geology. The famous desert spring brings in volumes of wildflowers that blissfully cloak the lands with a brilliant show of colour. The Colossal Cave itself, from which the park got its name, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been used by prehistoric peoples for centuries. The cave has had the attention of everyone - from outlaws hiding from the law to Presidents of the United States. The cave was first discovered in 1879 and primitive tours started taking place in the 1920's that were conducted using lanterns and rope. Nowadays the cave tours are modernized and the cave is lit up 24/7 showing its beauty anytime of the day. It's a stop that should not be missed during your trip. Vail also has a wondrous view of the Rincon Mountain range, which is located just near the Colossal Cave Mountain Park. In the Rincon Mountains you can find many hiking and biking trails that will bring you to some of the natural limestone lakes and desert wildernesses. Most of the Rincon Mountains are situated both in the Rincon Mountain Wilderness and in Saguaro National Park. Close to the range is the Happy Valley where many camp, hunt and go off-roading. These are two hotspots for Vail locals, too, and many will point you in this direction for get togethers and local events. Local hospitality reigns supreme in Vail and the residents are always happy to show you some of the hidden paths and landmarks of the city. The small natural city has many leisure activities outside of its nature walks and hikes. Vail actually has over 10 championship-grade golf courses that bring thoughts of paradise to mind. There are also many resorts that bring paradise to life within their walls when you don't feel like going out. Your days will never be empty and your to-do list will just grow as you discover more and more each day. Find out what Vail has to offer to its visitors year-round - your trip will be more than remarkable.
