Tucson - A Colourful Mix of Spanish, Mexican and American Lifestyles

Vacation Rentals TucsonTuscon is one of the oldest cities in the USA. It is located in the southern part of Arizona State, near the border with Mexico. The name's meaning comes from the native Uto-Aztecan tribes that once inhabited the area and it means "at the base of the black hill". It is believed that this hill refers to the volcanic mountain nearby. The present city was established in the late 18th century, although there is proof that Tuscon was populated more than 12 thousand years ago.

The biggest treasure of the city is the diversity of culture, people and architecture. It is considered that Tuscon has somehow combined the best from both worlds - the innovation of a metropolitan community and the friendly and rustic atmosphere of a small town.

The traditions of the locala, their houses and the sights, result in the charming mix of culture from the Native Americans, the Spanish customs, Mexican lifestyle and the Anglo-American architectural styles.

The most spectacular natural sight in Tuscon is the exquisite hills of Catalina Mountain located north of the city at a height of 2,800 metres above sea level. Tuscon is surrounded on all sides by beautiful heights. On the east, you can see the Rincon Mountains while on the west - the Tuscon Mountains.

Tuscon is not a typical American city. Proof for that is the downtown of Tuscon, which contrary to the expectations, is not filled with skyscrapers. The tallest building here is the UniSource Energy Tower, built in the late 20th century. The administrative buildings in Tuscon are really beautiful and attractive for tourists. Don't miss the Pima County Courthouse from the early 20th century built in traditional Spanish Revival style. Take a look at the building of the Fox Tuscon Theatre constructed in 1930 - it is really fabulous.

In late March and December you can attend a local festival, which is one truly colourful event. It is called the Fourth Avenue Street Festival during which the street turns into an arena for crafts, talents and trade. In January and February you can attend a rare event - an exhibition of gems, minerals and fossils that you can't see anywhere else.

The locals are convinced that there are 360 sunny days in Tuscon a year, which makes traveling to Tuscon even more tempting!
