Spokane is located in the picturesque valley of the Spokane River in Washington State. The area has been populated for more than 12,000 years. The name of the city comes from the language of the Native Americans that inhabited the area and it means "the children of the sun". The official nickname of Spokane is the Lilac City because in the early 20th centuries there were thousands of lilac bushes here.
