Seattle - Spectacular and Futuristic

Vacation Homes SeattleSeattle is a city in the American state of Washington. It is located between the Washington Lake and Puget Sound and is the largest city in the northwestern part of the United States. The city is named after the Indian chief Seattle from the local Native American tribes Squamish and Du-duwamish. Established in the mid-19th century, today Seattle is a major industrial and port center.

Without any doubt we can say that the biggest attraction of Seattle is the Space Needle. Because of this modern architectural masterpiece, Seattle is often called "the city under the needle". The futuristic tower is 184 metres tall and 42 metres wide at its widest part. Located in the Seattle Center exhibition complex, the needle was constructed to honor the World's Fair in 1962. The top floor of the Space Needle has a platform from which you can see the whole city. The view will take your breath away. One of the main attractions there is the rotating restaurant from which you can enjoy the city landscape on all sides. Other than the Space Needle, you should also see the buildings of the Central Library and the Smith Tower as well as the Columbia Center. Those contemporary constructions have become significant landmarks of Seattle.

Your tour will most likely begin from the Pike Place Market, which is the absolute tourist center of Seattle. Some people are attracted by the chance to have coffee at the first Starbucks while others like the enormous markets. However, it is a great starting point towards Seattle's downtown. Once you head to the museum, you will wonder how so many interesting places can be found in one city - from the Seattle Art and Seattle Asian Art Museum to the Frye Art museum. Don't miss the Science Fiction Museum and the Experience Music Project, which features an exhibit devoted to Jimi Hendrix. There's also the Burke Museum. The Seattle Aquarium and the Museum of Flight also offer some things worth seeing. The Woodland Park Zoo will fascinate you with its inhabitants that run free across the park.

Some other destinations for a nice walk and some spectacular photo-taking of the city are Kerry Park and Gasworks Park. Discovery Park gives you plenty of opportunities to choose a trail and explore the vast natural site. The beach offers a tremendous vista that includes the Olympic and Cascade Mountain Chains. Another recreation area is the Green Lake, which offers various sports activities. Go to the Myrtle Edwards Park, which is quite calm and peaceful although it is near the harbour. It offers not only great views, but if you are lucky you can also spot a blue whale.

If you are a connoisseur of flowers you shouldn't miss the arboretum of the University of Washington and the Kubota Garden. Kubota features the splendid colours and shades of the Japanese blossoms.

This dynamic and large city is also acclaimed for its event calendar. The Park Place Street Festival, Bumbershoot, Bite of Seattle, Hempfest and the Northwest Folklife Festival are just a few of the top events.
