San Juan Islands - Discover the Island Side of Washington The San Juan Islands are an archipelago in Puget Sound in the state of Washington. Don't miss the Lime Kiln Lighthouse located on the rocky coast of the island. Your next stop in exploring the islands should be Orcas Island. It is considered to be the most beautiful among the archipelago. It offers one of the best views towards the Cascade and Olympic Mountain ranges, once you reach the top of the Mt. Constitution. On the top you will find an observation tower to make your view even better. You won't wonder too long why this place is often recalled as having the best view in the world. The summit is located in the Moran State Park. Within the territory of the park you can camp, hike, bike, kayak, horseback ride and simply enjoy life. Last, but certainly not least, is Lopez Island. It is the perfect place for recreation; you can golf, kayak, bike the rural island and have some fun on the beaches. Explore the forest, the villages, the rural roads and don't be confused when the locals wave at you - just wave back. The most suitable period to head to the San Juan Islands is between April and October, and remember that July and August are the peak tourist months.
