Polaris - A Ghost Town Keeping History Alive

Polaris is an authentic ghost town in the American state of Montana. In the late 19th century it was a major mining center with forty mines. But in the early 20th century the smelter was destroyed by fire. There were only few buildings left in the city, which is named after the North Star - Polaris. The city offers a genuine trip back to the 19th century as everything has been kept the way it was. This town is no replica, but the real thing.

You can visit the Elkhorn Hot Springs where you can relax in the natural hot basins any time of the year. The nearby Maverick Mountain has perfect settings for hiking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and relaxing. The Maverick Mountain Ski Are is one of the most popular in this part of Montana. Locals call it their best-kept secret. Just imagine 2,000 feet slopes perfect for adventurous skiing.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is a place where you can hike in the surrounding wilderness and explore Comet Mountain or the old Elkhorn Mine.

The beautiful Crystal Park is another vacation area you can visit. It is a great destination for picnics and rock climbing. Picturesquely located in the Pioneer Mountains, Crystal Park is an ideal place to have a great time outdoors. The name of the area comes from the quartz crystals, which are scattered around. Most commonly they are gray or purple in color and vary in their size.
