Ocean View is a small Delaware town not far from Bethany Beach and the Indian River Bay, just a mile inland from the Atlantic Ocean
The history of Ocean View dates back to the colonial era, as the present site of the town was originally a tract of 500 acres known as “Middlesex”, granted to Matthew Scarborough by Lord Baltimore. After Scarborough's death the land eventually passed into the hands of the Hall family that opened a general store in the 1880s. The village became known as Hall's Store. Legend has it that a young man once climbed a tree in the area and saw the Atlantic Ocean, giving the town its current name. The present town of Ocean View was incorporated in 1889.
