Meet the Magic of Ocean Shores

Vacation Home Rentals Ocean Shores RentalOcean Shores is one of the most inviting places in the state of Washington- encircled by the Pacific Ocean and Grays Harbor, Ocean Shores is a peninsula, stretching to about six miles. Right in the heart of the city are two fresh-water lakes, where canals and ancient rain forest have found their home. As its name suggests, the foremost attraction of the town is the ocean itself. However, the capacity for entertainment in the city goes far beyond that.

Over 250 bird species and migratory birds find their shelter there; deer wander through the neighborhoods of the city. A Convention Center, spanning across 29,900 square feet gives the opportunity to encounter the latest technological developments. The center is a host for numerous meetings and displays, accommodating almost 1,000 guests, providing dinner and audio-visual effects if needed. The original mission was to promote and maintain local tourism, and at the same time being a resource supporting local organizations. The Interpretative Center is favourite place for school groups, classes, tourists and local people. Devoted to the idea of conservation and the wise use of natural resources, which is a focus of the numerous events and programmes held there, the center is endeavors to make people more conscious about the environment they live in.

Thrilling activities, family fun, numerous lovely dining places and irresistible shops beckon to guests of the town. Ocean Shores is a lively mix of a coastal environment, open areas, abundant wildlife, interior waterways, and a vibrant downtown, which is the business and commercial center, adjacent to the residential neighborhoods. The citizens are proud of their unique community, and are warmhearted and spirited to visitors to the town. They are well aware of the fact that some of the best beaches in the state of Washington can be found here. There is an excellent school system, restful public parks and peaceful fishing on the shores of the lakes, which also offer water sports activities.

Probably the most romantic way to explore the six-mile long beach is on horseback while colourful kites roam the sky, resembling exotic birds. Perched right on the tip of the peninsula is Damon point - a 61-acre park, with plenty of place to stroll.

The most southwestern tip of the town, called the North Jetty, is where you should go if you want to contemplate the sun-kissed waves or the stormy darkness of the ocean, crashing against the rocks, depending on the weather.

Local artists and artisans line Ocean Shores' downtown with art galleries and studios exhibiting works of art. Antique shops, souvenir shops, and collectible shops will draw your attention also. Golfers will be pleasantly surprised by the offerings of the PGA-collectible shops.

The history of the place take us back to the times of the first settlers, the Native American tribes of Chinook who used the ocean shore for a natural store of the food they gathered. Presently, ancestors of these Indian tribes, still reside in the area, twenty miles north of Ocean Shores, in Taholah. The first white settler is considered to be Matthew McGee who arrived in the 1860's. The construction of the road was the driving force that started a more significant development process. Ocean Shores became famous for its downtown vapor lamps. Twenty-five houses had been built by that time. Later, the canals were laid, the 6-hole golf course was built; the marina, motels and restaurants sprouted up.

The weather in Ocean Shores rarely reaches extreme cold or hot temperatures. The marine climate influences contribute to the comparatively dry summers and ocean breezes. On the contrary, the winters are wet and snowy, although not too long.
