Methow Valley in the State of Washington is named after the Methow River, which flows into the valley. “Methow” originally comes from the Okanagan Indian placename that means “sunflower”. The valley itself is an amazing place for summer and winter activities. In summer Methow is the perfect place for hiking - Beautiful scenery and amazing landscapes will surround you wherever you go. A special trail system offers an endless network of trails on public land higher up the North Cascades. The trails are usually marked and snow-free in from May to November. You will also find perfect mountain bike trails offering everything from high alpine trails to smooth dirt tracks. Also, the bird watching in Methow Valley is amongst the best in the state. You can observe more than 250 species of birds in their natural habitats. Year-round, Golden and Bald Eagles can be seen in the valley, as well as Lewis' Woodpeckers.

Methow Valley is especially dog-friendly. Dogs are welcome on 90% of the trails and are also allowed at all National Forest trails and Wilderness Areas. In summer the full Methow experience also includes horseback riding - whether you bring your own horse or sign up for a guided ride once you arrive.

During the winter season Meathow Valley is an amazing place for skiing - an expansive trail system provides 120 miles of skiing in peaceful and uncrowded conditions. The Methow Valley Sport Trails Association sponsors ski races and fun events for the entire family. In winter you can go on snowshoe tours led by local volunteers. The tours are all about winter ecology, wildlife, snow and more.
