Vacation Rentals Ludlow / Okemo Mountain AreaLudlow / Okemo Mountain Area
The Top-ranked Snow amongst Vermont Resorts Ludlow, in Windsor County, Vermont, is a town that borders the Green Mountains to the west. The Green Mountains are home to Okemo Mountain, which is a fabulous winter destination for families. The town's history dates from 1761, when it was first chartered. Over a century later, there were only 2,000 people living in Ludlow. Today, there are only 500 more than that - it has remained true to its origins. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States, was born in Ludlow in 1872, when Ludlow was still a mill town, but now Ludlow is known as the home of winter fun at Okemo Mountain. The resort on the mountain has been ranked the Top Family Snow Resort in the US by Parents Magazine. Though the history of the town stretches back more than 200 years, Okemo Mountain Resort is a relatively new development, established in 1955. When it opened, lift rids cost as little as 20 cents - quite a bargain! It has weathered fires, competition from western ski resorts, and even floods, but Okemo has prevailed to become what it is today - a fantastic family vacation area. The base of the mountain is 346 metres above sea level, and the summit is almost 600 metres above that, creating the biggest vertical drop in southern Vermont. You and your family can enjoy more than 100 trails that span more than 2.5 square kilometres of ski area. And there's something for everyone, whether you're a beginner or an expert. You never need to worry about poor snowfall, either. Almost the entire resort can be blanketed in perfect powder and expertly groomed by the resort's snowmaking machines. Depending on your abilities and skiing wishes, you can experience gladed trails lined with trees, mogul trails, a terrain park with jumps, rails and halfpipes, and natural trails. Reach your dream trail on one of Okemo's 12 chairlifts, and stay at one of the five lovely lodges. Jackson Gore Base Lodge has daycare, restaurants, a tavern and hotel-style accommodations, making it great for families. Sugar House has numerous dining options, for the epicures in your group. Solitude Day Lodge is in a base area, while Summit Lodge is high up on the main peak. Main Base Lodge also offers daycare, along with lift tickets, rentals, food venues and a ski shop. The resort is not just the place to go for skiing - you can take advantage of the pool and fitness center, a Nordic center, a massage and spa facility, snowshoeing, snowtubing, ice skating and more. There's a ski and ride school for kids and adults, so you can begin learning, or brush up on your skills. Package deals and season-long rentals make it an attractive place to visit for an extended vacation or even just a long weekend.
