Georgetown Lake Promises Inspiring Relaxation Georgetown Lake is a mountain lake, encircled by the Flint Creek Range to the north and the Pintlers Wilderness to the south. The scenic lake is spread across 3000 acres and has an average of 20 feet in depth. A significant part of the territory surrounding the lake is private. Aside from being a fishing hotspot, mostly for brook trout and rainbow trout, the lake offers great opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as camping, windsurfing, swimming, boating, and sailing. Four public ramps for boats are available in Georgetown Lake. In winter, the Lake provides excellent conditions for snowmobiling and ice fishing. Every guest has easy access to casinos, restaurants, and lodgings. If you are planning to escape from city, or if you want to renew the bond with nature, you can take advantage of the more primitive lodging options like camping at some of the National Forest campgrounds around the lake. Outdoorsy travelers will be tempted to hike to Echo Lake - a refreshing adventure that is one of the best ways to relieve stress. The Basin Ski resort provides exciting skiing down the rolling hills. The cross-country skiers will not be disappointed, either - the Lodgepole Ridge National Ski Trail has a loop that is almost eight miles long. The area has extensive scenic routes with breath taking beauty. The neighbouring Deer Lodge National Forest offers the chance to meet wildlife including elk, moose and deer, in their own habitat. Bird lovers will definitely want to drop by to East Fork Reservoir, only six miles west of Georgetown Lake, as it is a popular birding location. The Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area, south of Anaconda, is another intriguing place for bird-watching. The Anaconda-Pintler Scenic Route is a sixty-four mile drive, out of Anaconda, providing you with unforgettable scenery and is one of the best ways to encounter the natural beauty of the state of Montana. The route passes through the northern shoreline of Georgetown Lake, nestled along the base of the Anaconda Range, through the gorgeous Philipsburg Valley and through Flint Creek, which links the mining town of Anaconda with Drummond. The first nine miles of the trail pass through the largest Superfund site in the country, which is not the most inspiring view although the snowy peaks ahead promise a pleasant surprise. The moment you pass Anaconda, the terrain dramatically changes into beautiful forested mountains, followed by the striking shores of Georgetown Lake, with the magnificent Anaconda Range as a backdrop.
