Cody, Wyoming - A Sensation of the Old West Cody plays the role of the Eastern Gateway to Yellowstone National Park. The town is one of the most emblematic symbols of the legendary American West, and it is named after William F. Cody, a.k.a Buffalo Bill Cody. If you want to hear the story of the town in detail, you'll need to visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center where five museums compete for your attention. Tour the historical past of the Old West through the museums' halls. You can choose to follow the Buffalo Bill's story or examine the exhibitions at Plains Indian Museum, the impressive firearms collection at Cody Firearms Museum, or the Whitney Gallery of Western Art where you can catch a glimpse on Western art. The Museum at the Tecumseh's Old West Miniature Village and the village itself display and impressive railroad model, reproducing the major events that happened in the notorious Wild West. This stop is particularly amusing for children since they can have a hand in the action by pushing buttons to put the trains to motion. Many tourists visit Cody to encounter the preserved spirit of the good Old West. All the artifacts and events to bring you back in time are recreated: witness a cowboy shoot-out from a folding chair; at Dan Miller's Cowboy Music Revue you can hear the cowboy classics; or hear live performances at the Cody Cattle Company; and last but not least, enjoy the Cody Nite Rodeo, held from June to August (the rodeo events will impress your whole family, especially those into bronco riding). Another attraction in the area was built way back in 1910. The Buffalo Bill Dam, reveals spectacular views from atop its 353 feet. Cody's Old Trail Town will take you for a walk back into the past, more precisely 140 years back. It is a home of buildings which belonged to the pioneers and a border colony dating back to the historic boom days. You can also visit Jeremiah Johnson's grave. Remember that role played by Robert Redford? Or check out Butch Cassidy's or The Sundance Kid's cabins. Providing amusement for all ages and therefore a wonderful family vacation destination, Cody is also home to McCullough Peaks Wild Horse Range, where you will have the unique chance to observe herds of real wild horses. The canyon is stunning for its natural beauty; you will never forget the majestic views - they are simply breathtaking. Sports enthusiasts should not feel neglected, for there is wide variety of outdoor activities that can be undertaken amid the gorgeous natural landscapes. Shoshone and North Fork Rivers are excellent for rafting, kayaking and river floats. Summer is the best season for outdoor recreation options, such as mountain biking, hiking, golf, and fishing while winter is wonderful for skiing, snowmobiling and ice climbing.
