Bothell's population is about 30,000 people. The first European settlers arrived in this territory in 1870. The period after the World War II marked the further development of Bothell. The history of the town begins in 1876 with the Canadian George Brackett who bought the land (which now is the city of Bothell) and initiated a logging business. Within few years, a school, a sawmill and a store were established. The town is named after David Bothell who, in 1885, bought off 80 acres of the land and later sold them to the town's postmaster, who gave city its name in 1888. The next year a railroad was built in order to transport coal from Issaquah. Presently, Biotechnology and software development have moved in to the town, with a branch of the University of Washington. The town brags of its own festival in celebration of American Independence - the two-day Bothell Freedom Festival.
