Discover the Charm and Solidarity of the Small Community of Bondurant

Vacation Homes Bondurant Vacation Rentals Bondurant is a small community situated in the Hoback Basin, along the banks of the Hoback River, and is divided into halves by Scenic Byway, Wyoming Highway 189/191. The Basin has no official commercial town centre; the locals, however regularly patronize the Elk Horn - an intriguing combination of a bar, a gas station and a convenience store. You can also check out the seasonally functioning Branding Iron Cafe and last but not least, the institution that used to and still links this small place with the world outside - namely, the Post Office.
Perched right on the heart of the valley, visitors will come across the two historic buildings in Bondurant: St. Hurbert Hunter Church and the Library, both with indisputable social and historic significance for the town. The citizens of the community also maintain their own elementary school and a fire department.
The Church of St. Hubert the Hunter was raised in 1941, the funds for the building having been acquired after the sale of a big diamond gemstone. The Church has a classical log structure. Further renovation was done in 1970's when the green metal roof was placed and indoor plumbing was installed.
The curious name of Bondurant was given by its early citizens in honour of Benjamin Franklin Bondurant, the first postmaster of the town and also an eminent rancher and storekeeper. The name originates from French, meaning a person with "good endurance".
Historical evidences prove that the the first Protestant sermon has been delivered in the Rocky Mountains nearby Bondurant by Rev. Sam Parker. Jedediah Smith, Kit Carson and Jim Bridger attended the sermon, although they had to leave earlier disatracted by a herd of passing buffalo.
The previously mentioned Benjamin Franklin Bondurant and his wife Sarah Ellen were, as a matter of fact, two of the first in the state of Wyoming to establish a dude ranch (ranches adapted for vacationers) in the beginning of 1900's. Curious attractions in these ranches were the wild pets: elks, pronghorn antelope and black bear cubs could be seen there.
Bondurant Community enjoys a few annual events, where everyone is welcome - local people and guests alike. CC Benefit Raffle is a summer event with a charity orientation. Held  in June, the last Sunday of the month, Bondurant BBQ is a tradition begun in1941 as a celebration of the final completion of the church, and has become a popular area event. The Barn Dance sponsors the ongoing restoration of the historical Library. Heritage Days are organized during the second Saturday in August, an event that includes a rummage sale, a bake sale, arts & crafts, a cookout and the BCC Benefit Raffle.
