Bay Head, New Jersey - Biggest Historic District of New Jersey

Bay Head is located in Ocean County, New Jersey.  Its population is approximately 1000 people. Today, Bay Head is considered a part of New Jersey. Actually, it became a Borough by the Act of New Jersey Legislature in 1886.

Even though it is only a Borough in New Jersey, Bay Head has a very interesting long history. Its first post office was established back in 1882. The Bay Head resort was founded in 1879 by five partners, three of which were from Princeton. At that time the resort rapidly began to grow. The population reached 75 people, 20 new cottages and new roads were built. Bay Head holds half of New Jersey's historic buildings - over 550 and that makes it the town's largest historic district. All of the structures with architectural, historic significance are well preserved. Visitors can admire the rich collection of Stick style, Queen Anne Style and Shingle Style buildings. They are simply astonishing.

Bay Head is easily accessible through two-lane highway which connects the small communities with the city of New Jersey. There are also regular trains from New Jersey Transit that also go to the Bay Head train station.

An interesting fact is that Roger King, owner and producer of King World Productions, was from Bay Head, New Jersey. You don't know who he is? Well, you might not know him but you probably know some of the game shows he produced like “Jeopardy!”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and “Oprah Windfrey” for example.
