Baltimore is the biggest city in the state of Maryland. There are many things that illustrate the authenticity of the city - its beautiful harbour, unique museums, rich history and colourful variety of people and cultures. The city is situated in the Chesapeake Bay.

Baltimore's Harbour is considered to be one of the most important ones in the United States. Baltimore is often called a "Fascinating town". Among the most visited places is the Inner Harbor, where locals and guests can enjoy the wide variety of restaurants, bars, shops and other businesses. The eminent Baltimore Aquarium is one of the best in the world and the United States in particular, being a home for more than 660 species of sea dwellers. It is the most impressive tourist attraction in Maryland and has been officially proclaimed as the best family destination.    

The Maryland's Science Center is also of special interest with its modern planetarium and 3D projections. Among the greatest attractions of the city is the Baltimore World Trade Center, being the world's tallest pentagonal building, built with symmetrical walls 124 metres high. The top floor, the 27th, reveals a spectacular birdseye view of Baltimore: the Inner Harbor, Federal Hill Park, and of course the main harbour.    

Other interesting tourist sites are the USS Torsk submarine and the USS Constellation sailboat, as well as The Baseball Stadium Oriole Park. The Baltimore City Hall is a unique architectural masterpiece. You should not miss the house of the famous poet Edgar Allan Poe. The five rooms will give you an idea of the environment in which the renowned American writer lived and composed.     

The Baltimore Basilica is considered to be the first Roman-Catholic cathedral in the United States. The majestic temple was built in the neoclassical style. Another religious edifice that deserves special attention is the beautiful Presbyterian Church, constructed in 1870 in the Gothic style. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most significant architectural treasures in the city. Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower is a gorgeous clock tower with a clock on each of the walls, 289 meters high.

Besides all these fascinating features, Baltimore is a city of historical importance, having played a key role and affecting the events that lead to the American Revolution. Established in the 17th century, the city is named for Lord Baltimore - the first private Governor of the Province of Maryland.
