Cappadocia, Turkey as A UNESCO World Heritage Site Cappadocia, otherwise known as Land of Fairy Chimneys, it is a place where tourists can witness the most unique sights like subterranean cities, ages-old Christian churches, cave monasteries, rock castles and architecture from the Byzantine era. It is located on the east central part of Turkey and had attracted some 26 million visitors back in 2008. Here are few attractions to amaze you once you visit Cappadocia. * Goreme National Park and Rock Sites of Cappadocia. This was listed in 1985 in UNESCO after having met the natural and cultural criteria. The place is sculpted by erosion and there are troglodyte and underground cities. * Underground Cities. There is an estimated 300 towns that extend several floors down the earth's surface. * Rock castles. Built during the Bronze age to be used for war defences. * Cave churches. Early churches were carved using volcanic rocks and decorated with paintings of holy scenes. * Rock-cut villages. In the towns of Goreme and Mustafapasa are homes carved from rocks. There are also hotels and restaurants that are caved. In Cappadocia, you will also see various shapes like towers, cones and spires formed by volcanic eruptions.
