A good housekeeper is a vacation rental owner's “eyes and ears” in the day-to-day management of the property. Finding a person to entrust your property can be time-consuming. However, a good housekeeper is not hard to find if you know how and where to look for them. Here are some tips to lessen your burden.
First is to look for housekeepers within your area where your neighbours are also vacation rental owners. Your fellow owners are competitors of your business but they are also your best resources not only in finding a housekeeper but in other aspects of vacation rental business.  These other owners can recommend housekeepers for your property.
Second is to introduce yourself to housekeepers and repairmen of your fellow owners in your area. They may be willing to have a sideline job with you. Or much better if they can recommend their friends or relatives to work with you. Another is to ask the members of your local church or other place of worship for good housekeepers. Still another is to tell every good person you know that you are in need of a housekeeper. That way you are casting a wide net of referrals.
If worse comes to worst, then the third and your last recourse is through advertisements and employment agencies. However, this means doing a little work of interviewing potential applicants.  If possible hire individuals who are licenced, insured and company bonded. You can also try a cleaning service. Although it may not be able to give the same level of personalised attention as an individual, but then again it offers more flexibility in scheduling. Weigh the pros and cons of tips given to you and act wisely. Remember that a reliable housekeeper is the key to your vacation rental success. If you treat your staff well, everybody wins.
