3 Essential Things to Know When Going on Your First Cruise

Going on a cruise vacation is a wonderful way to see several cities or countries in a short span of time. If you are going on one for the first time, however, there are certain things you should keep in mind:

1. Book either early or late.
You can get many great deals if you book your trip way ahead of time. You are likely to find early bird specials if you make arrangements several months before your date of departure. You'll also be able to get first choice of cabins.

You also might be able to get good deals if you book a few weeks before the departure date because they might be looking for passengers to fill up any remaining slots. However, you won't be able to choose your cabins. Flights also might be more expensive at this point.

2. Book a short trip.
If this is your first time, book a short trip instead of a long one. About three to five days should be enough for you to experience what cruising is like. Several travelers go on this type of vacation only to find it too limiting or boring for them. If you enjoy cruising, book a longer trip next time.

3. Use a travel agency.
It is recommended that you course your reservations through a travel agency. Agencies will be able to provide you with valuable tips and suggestions. Of course, look for an agency that is not affiliated with one specific company. This way, you will be able to get honest and unbiased opinions.

These are three things to keep in mind whilst preparing for your first cruise. Once you get onboard, simply sit back, relax and have the time of your life.
