Your Guide to European Boutique Hotels

Boutique hotels were not popular in the past...not until 1984 when it became an "in thing" in New York. This was the time when Morgans were opened by Steve
Rubell and Ian Schrager in Madison Avenue. A European touch was then added to the concept. This is through the effort of Andre Putman. From there, the influence spread to other cities, then to other nations, then to other continents. This is where European boutique hotels flourished as well.

The first European boutique hotel

Many people have argued that the boutique hotel had long existed in Europe. But if you'll consider 1984 as the year when this type of hotel grew, then you can say that "42 The Calls" is the very first boutique hotel in Europe. This hotel has a room rate of £89 per double room. It was constructed out of a former corn mill and has handmade beds in it.

A chain of European boutique hotels

Before, boutique hotels were said to carry a distinct name on them. But nowadays, you'll find a chain of hotels under one name instead. For instance, there is the so-called Stein hotel with over 10 branches all over Europe. This hotel chain's latest addition is the one found at Mallorca (also known as the Gran Hotel Son Julia). Room price for the hotel starts at around £171. Apart from this, there is also Hotel Du Vin with 7 hotels in Europe and whose rooms are priced at around £130.

There are indeed a lot of things in store for you in European boutique hotels. Each has surprising things to offer. Some have laidback atmospheres but some have more sophisticated surroundings. Overall, all these hotels are great places to stay in whilst you are in this continent
