Holiday Tips: What Food to Pack for a Road Trip with Children Going on a road trip with children can be a stressful experience. They get restless, hungry and tired after being in the car for long periods of time. Here are some ideas on what food to pack for a long road trip: 1. Breakfast items If you'll be having breakfast on the road, pack some muffins or bagels. Make sure to place them in individual bags so you can easily pass them around. You may also want to purchase individual containers of milk and cereal. 2. Sandwiches Tuna or chicken sandwiches are great to have in the car in case the passengers get hungry. They are nutritious and are easy to eat. You can also prepare special peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids to have as a snack. 3. Assorted snack items Put together a box of assorted snack items that you can offer to your children when they get restless. Toss in fruits such as oranges and apples. Also put in chips, crackers, slices of cheese and a few pieces of candy. 4. Drinks Purchase different flavours of juice that come in individual boxes with straws. There is little mess and they are easy to clean up. Place your drinks in a small cooler that you can place at the front of the vehicle so it is accessible to all. By preparing food for a road trip, you can feed your children nutritious snacks as opposed to fried food at various fast food chains. It will be more convenient and will also save you a lot of money.
