1. Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (California, USA). Launched in 1999, this well-attended music festival has enjoyed a growing audience through the years. Expect the best independent rock and alternative bands as well as food, tattoo, art, handicrafts and body piercing booths.
2. All Tomorrow's Parties (Somerset, UK). This annual event is staged during May, just in time for a rockin' spring holiday. It is different from other music festivals in that a special guest is asked to "curate" each event. Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons), Belle and Sebastian and other visual and music artists were asked to invite their favourite bands to play in various ATP events.
3. Primavera Sound Festival (Barcelona, Spain). With a focus on bringing unknown bands into the limelight, this musical fiesta features a diverse range of bands. Aphex Twin, The Pixies, The White Stripes and To La Tengo, amongst others, have all shared the stage with upcoming artists and musicians.
4. Roskilde Festival (Roskilde, Denmark). What begun as a project of two high school boys in 1971 has now evolved into one of the biggest music festivals in Europe. Expect the biggest and most popular bands onstage, like Nick Cave, Coldplay and even Kanye West.
